Hope Writers Review

What is Hope*Writers

In a nutshell, Hope Writers is a community to help writers publish their work.

Access to the community’s membership is available only once or twice a year.

The community provides ongoing training, support, access to a private Facebook group, and the ability to join independent circles created by other members for additional support, feedback, and help. Every member can join these circles and create their own circles as well.

The hope writers team is huge and consists of 20+ team members dedicated to helping authors in their publishing journey.

They have over 3,200 paying members now, from beginning writers to published authors.

This is the 5th year that hope writers exist as a community.

Hope Writers Story

Over Thanksgiving 2013, Myquillyn and her sister Emily Freeman and their dad Gary Morland talked over turkey and dressing about how fun it would be if they could do something together as a family.

Emily says…

We already each had a blog, and Myquillyn and I each had books published, but we were eager to try something different. This is both the gift and the burden of the artist’s life. We thought it would be fun to create something for our readers together, and so we did.

We thought about what we each loved to write about, and then the three of us created a membership site that covered it all and called it hope*ologie, offering encouragement and hope for your home, your family, and your soul.

It was a fun project, and I loved working with my family, but once the year mark passed, without a clear target reader or big picture plan, we started to lose interest and considered closing up shop.

The Pivot

That was when we met Brian Dixon. Brian advised us to survey our members and find out more about who they were and what they were about. Through that survey, we discovered that over half (over half!) of our readers were either writers or wanted to learn more about writing and publishing.

This information was gold.

In the fall of 2015, hope*ologie became hope*writers.

Welcome Hope Writer

Lesson 1: Read me first

Here, Hope*Writers are welcoming all new members with a quote by Seth Godin.

Art is when you do work that matters in a creative way, in a way that touches people and changes them for the better.

Enter: the weird life of a writer. It’s one thing to write words. It’s another thing to share them. It can end up feeling like there is a giant gap between the words you write and the people you want to read them.

Hope*writers exists to stand in the gap for you, to help you not feel so weird about sharing your words, and to offer training, advice, support, and encouragement as you find a way to close the gap, in your timing and in your own way.

Lesson 4: The hope writers manifesto.

When you’re doing the hard work of writing, you need some words to live by.

You can get a copy of the manifesto in pdf format.

Lesson 5: A word about faith, culture, and worldview expectations in hope writers.

One of the main ways they offer training and support is through their Tuesday conversations with experts in the industry.

Lesson 6: Policies, cancelations, refunds.

They clearly state their legal documents.

The hope writer path: an overview

Lesson 7: How to navigate the member’s library.

The hope*writers content library is divided into six parts, or stages, based on what they believe to be foundational aspects of the life of a working writer.

Though they do believe that you generally move through these stages one after another, we are also always working through many stages at the same time.

Lesson 8: Identify your writing stage.

This the time to take your quiz

They say…In all seriousness, take the quiz for fun, but also know that you know yourself better than we do. Read the stage descriptions, paying close attention to the checklists at the end of each stage, and see which one checks off the most boxes for you.

I took the quiz and here are my results delivered via email:

My quiz results:

Hi Anastasios Tzortzis. You passed discover your writing stage with 53%.

Stage 4: The Author 51-65%.

If you haven’t written a book yet, you’re probably on your way. You’ve done the
work of identifying your reader and understand the difference between writing
and publishing. Hope*writers can teach you how to write a book proposal and
pitch to an agent or editor.

In this email they also describe all the stages.

hope writers review tuesday teaching

Lesson 9: Tuesday teaching and Tuesday together.

Every Tuesday, they go live at 2 pm EST for a live training. They invite agents, editors, marketing professionals, podcasters, and fellow authors to join them, and they ask them the questions you want to be answered

Tuesday together: Once per quarter, they turn the camera on you, and they all join the meeting together. It’s a great time to see your fellow writers, to connect, and to talk about the things you want to learn and the questions you have.

Co-funder coaching: From time to time, they choose a topic and invite hope*writers to raise their hand and be on the hot seat. They choose 2-3 writers and dig into your specific questions on a specific topic.

Lesson 10: Tuesday teaching – Let’s make progress.

Here, there’s a video 1-hour long where you’ll meet the co-founders, Emily, Gary, and Brian, and the community manager, Maeve.

You can download the material in pdf and m4a (audio).

I really enjoyed this welcoming video of the hope writers team. They care about their members and they are willing to do anything they can to keep them motivated and help them all the way from getting started with writing to getting published.

What is a hope*circle?

Lesson 11: There’s a quote here by Tobin Evans.

I hold hope circles completely responsible for helping me turn a dream into a reality.

And they provide a list of what a hope*circle really is.

Writing conferences.

They say…

Writers conferences can be a great way to sharpen your writing, learn the publishing world, make connections, make new friends, be inspired, and even meet with editors to pitch your book proposal. Yes, people do make connections at conferences that lead to book deals — ask Emily.

You asked for a list of writers’ conferences, so here’s the beginning of a master list to get you started. This is not an official hope*writers approved list. You’ll need to check these out for yourself to see if they fit for you.

And they provide a big list of events you can check out on your own.

There’s also a section on how to prepare for a conference (Ideas from Gary).

The hope*writer path is not a recipe. It’s not static, it’s fluid. You may move through stages quickly, only to realize you need to go back and get something you missed.

Once you get to Stages 4, 5, and 6, you’ll find that to be true even more. No matter what stage you’re in on the path, marketing will always play a role, for better or worse.

I could not agree more. Without marketing, even the best products can’t find their way to the marketplace. Without marketing, we lose customers, and without customers, we lose business.

    • All about guided hope circles
    • Choose your guided hope circle

hope*circle is a small group of hope*writers who decide to team up for friendship and support.

It’s not a class. No one is teaching you how to do something. Everyone participates – otherwise why join?

When you join or host a small group of hope*writers, you become part of the good they do in the world.

Since it takes some initiative to raise your hand and say “who wants to connect?” or “I’m in!” then starting or joining a small group of writers helps you grow your self-starter initiative muscle.

    Two Kinds Of Hope*Circles

Peer hope circles and guided hope circles.

For years, Hope Writers offered the peer hope circles.  You start and join on your own and can make them anything you want.

In May 2021, they added the guided hope circles. This new level of hope*circle is easy to join and has unlimited capacity. Even though the groups could be large, each guided hope*circle will have small group breakout sessions during each meeting. Guided hope*circles will meet on Zoom.

Guided hope*circles are organized by the hope*writers team, focus on a specific topic, and led by a hope*writers approved guide. They are designed for you to make progress, not gather info.  They’re free and are an added part of your membership. Guided hope*circles will be in session three times a year for a seven-week cycle.

During a guided hope circle session you will receive:

    • 15 minutes of teaching from a guide who knows their topic.
    • Instruction on a few simple action steps to take before your next meeting.
    • A 30-minute breakout session to meet other writers in your hope*circle, talk about what you learned and get feedback on your next-step plan from other members.
    • A designated Facebook group with your hope*circle and guide.
    • Three separate Q+A Sessions over the course of your 7-week cycle.

    FAQ

What if I join and decide it's not for me?

You can cancel your membership at any time.

I am a writer, but I'm not ready to write a book and am not even sure I want to. Will this still help me?

If you are a writer who wants to share your words with a reader (no matter the format!), then hope*writers is for you.

Is hope*writers only for nonfiction writers?

No! Fiction writers are welcome (and celebrated) in hope*writers. Our goal is to equip writers to do their good work forever, and we do have fiction writers in our community who have found great value here. We’ve also had several Tuesday Teachers who specifically focus on fiction.

What if I can't watch the live training on Tuesdays? Do I miss out?

Never! We have members from all over the world and realize not everyone can join us for our live elements. Everything we provide live will also be recorded and available in the member library.

    Is there homework?

There isn’t homework, but we do provide simple benchmarks and checklists to help keep you on track as you move through the various writing stages at your own pace.

Is hope*writers only for faith-based writers?

Hope*writers is for any writer who wants to offer hope to the world. While many of our members find their hope in their faith (and for many, that’s Christianity, as hope is a pervading message of that faith), any writer with a message of hope is welcome and will be embraced and helped. It will not be assumed that you hold certain beliefs.

Okay, but is it only for women?

It didn’t start out that way, but the hope*writers approach seems to be attracting far more women than men.

We do have a few men (and two of our co-founders are men!). We welcome all writers who are ready to commit to their work.

I want to join but my spouse/partner isn't on board, what do I do?

Great question! You’re not alone. In fact, we get this question so often, we made a video for you and your spouse to watch.

    Who is hope*writers NOT for?

Cut-throat competitors: We know how to work hard and we take our work seriously, but we don’t have time for the drama and anxiety of comparison and competition. We don’t compete with each other, we champion each other. Success for one is success for all.

Self-promoters: There is a difference between sharing your work and self-promotion. If you don’t know the difference yet, that’s okay! We welcome writers who want to learn to share their work better. But if writers come in just to grandstand, we’ll know.

Robots: What works for one may not work for all. We understand that and work hard to encourage hope*writers to find ways to do their good work without going crazy. We’re looking for writers with heart who want to share their work with a reader while also becoming more fully themselves in the process.

    My Final Review

I’m very satisfied with the Hope Writers membership. It’s a community dedicated to helping authors succeed and find their way to publishing.

The member’s library is huge and new training sessions are being added every Tuesday.

The categorization in stages plays a big role in helping members find their way through the huge database according to their special needs and current situation.

The quiz that new members can fill out welcomes them in a unique and fun way.

Now let’s review each section separately.

    Start here:

This section is critical as it’s the first one and uncovers a lot about what new members have to expect.

The hope writers team provides a clear path and they show their dedication.

They have photos of their team members and they share their stories, which most members will find encouraging and motivating. Some will recognize themselves in these stories and even one of the co-founders shares how he suffers from his own procrastinating demons.

    Stage 1 Writer:

This section is all about helping you become an established and responsible author that is working towards his/her goals on a daily basis. Even if you don’t have to write every day. But your mind should be focused on your goals.

Writing routines, how to find time to write, asking for help, how to treat your family members and their responses (important), how book publishing works, overcoming imposter syndrome, where to start, the craft of writing, publishing funnels, writing fiction, spiritual practices, and so much more.

I could not be more impressed by this section.

    Stage 2 Hostess:

In this stage, the hope writers team do everything they can to help you discover your inner writing superpower. There are social media lessons, email marketing training, blogging techniques, podcasting secrets, and so much more.

They show you what to do when you only have a few readers, which is a very important stage in everyone’s journey. Here, you have to realize that your readers are your most valuable asset.

They will also show you how to develop your own writing voice.

    Stage 3 Entrepreneur:

I found the material in this stage absolutely phenomenal.

They devote a big part of their training in this section. Because no matter how brilliant your book is, you have to become an entrepreneur.

There are website strategy lessons, what to do with criticism, lessons on how to pre-sell your ideas, how to build a platform, legal training, social media, how to pivot, and so much more.

    Stage 4 Author:

This stage is the most important that is why the hope writers team focused on it. There are 53 lessons in total and have in mind, that new training is being added on a weekly basis.

Training about self-publishing, how to structure your book, book proposals, endorsements, talking with agents, what publishers are looking for, ghostwriting, there are discussions with various editors, authors, and agents.

I could not be more satisfied with the content in this section.

    Stage 5 Marketer:

I can’t stretch the importance of marketing enough.

Even the greatest authors can’t turn their hobby into a living without spreading the word about their work.

Copywriting lessons, networking, Amazon and kindle, social media, how to launch.

I’m very satisfied with this section although I’m waiting for more training and material to be shared in the near future. Because without marketing, you have no real business.

    Stage 6 Essentialist:

A very important section where they help you take your authoring practice to the next level.

Training about how to become a person of influence, how to be successful, mastering podcasting, how to be creative, how to pivot, how to run your authoring business, how and where to say no, leadership, writing and speaking.

I’m very satisfied and like the previous section, I’m waiting for new training lessons to be added soon.

    Tuesday teachings – the archive:

All the training sessions are gathered here for your convenience. The lessons are archived in alphabetical order.

The lessons exist separately in the training stages.

    Hope circle:

This stage is what makes the hope writers unique, entertaining, and effective.

These circles are absolutely worth your time. You should join a circle as soon as possible and take advantage of the great benefits that arise.

Authors, among other professionals, need constant encouragement and motivation. They also need feedback. And this is the place to get all these. Beyond the hope writers team looking over your shoulder, these circles are your secret power.

You can make friends, ask questions, and you’ll also be able to help others.

    How cool is that!

Do you think your words don’t matter?

So many people suffer from imposter syndrome. In fact, research shows that almost 70% of people show signs of inferiority at some point in their lives and this affects their work, school, and homes.

This means you are not alone.

Now, I don’t know how exactly this feels because I don’t belong in this category of people, but I can help you overcome these negative beliefs and feelings.

The world is vulnerable more than ever before and this especially true if we consider the devastating consequences of last year’s pandemic.

With that in mind, YOUR words, stories, point-of-view, books, and writings matter. A lot.

There are people waiting for your own unique message and your perspective. There are certain groups of people that will instantly connect with your words on a deep emotional level just by reading a few sentences of your work.

    This is not hyperbole.

    It’s the truth.

Your words may not matter for some people, but there are people that crave your own stories and experiences.

And there is no better way than transferring your feelings through words and books.

You are providing a high-quality service to the world and you have the power to improve people’s lives and impact them by just sharing your message.

So, how do you do that?

First, you need to be authentic, do not copy what others do.

Be vulnerable and express your feelings as they are.

This sacred way of sharing your message will reflect on your audience and they will fully understand you, they will put themselves in your position or in the position of your book’s hero.

So, what if somebody already shared a story similar to yours? What if someone already said what you plan to say?

If that’s the case, have in mind, that even if other people shared similar stories with you and if they said what you want to say, nobody can say that in the way that you do.

Because every human is different and unique. You have your own experiences and when you share your words, those experiences transfrom your message into something magical that has the power to touch people’s hearts and minds.

Your words are valuable and matter for specific groups of people. Don’t give up on them. Be their guide and invite them to your community, your tribe.

    My “writing” story

For as long as I can remember, I am a writer and a reader of course.

In fact, I’m in love with both.

I never stopped reading and writing since I was a little kid. I was always excited about reading anything you can imagine.

Magazines, newspapers, books, letters, scripts on-screen, anything.

I was thrilled whenever I had to present my writing work to the class, from elementary school through the university.

And when I found myself immersed in the online business and marketing world, writing has been my superpower.

    I write every day. Non-stop.

    Am I crazy?

I know I am happy. Because writing deliberates me and gives me freedom.

I write blogs and articles, copy for ads and landing pages, reviews of brands and products, case studies, research, quizzes, questionnaires, contests, sales funnels, and so much more.

I write for my clients and I compose their advertisements.

I write headlines, descriptions, emails, social media posts, copy for web pages, scripts for videos and podcasts, you name it.

I study a lot and perform extensive research to understand people’s needs, wants, and problems.

And when I gather this data, I am able to target specific groups of people and capture their attention.

I’m doing so by using WORDS that those groups of people can relate to.

This is my everyday life as a marketer. I write to collect data and I write to motivate people into taking some kind of action.

Now, you don’t have to do what I do, but whether you want to write a book or anything else, all you need is to trust your inner voice and be authentic, transparent, and above all, be yourself.

Writing is responsible for the growth of this website. You see, this website was just a marketing blog into obscurity and I transformed it into a marketing agency.

Thousands of people are visiting it to read about marketing, sales, advertising, entrepreneurship, human psychology, personal development, web design and development, and so much more.

That happened because I write a lot. I write everyday. I just can’t live without writing.

I write words that matter. My words don’t matter for everyone, but matter for some people, my community, my tribe, my clients, my partners, and other brands or entrepreneurs.

My words help people find solutions to their problems, make well-informed decisions, and grow their businesses.

Words can move mountains, and words are responsible for propelling people into taking action. Without words, this world won’t exist.

What you need to succeed as an author

There are 4 key elements that define success in the authoring industry. Authors that lack even 1 out of 4 elements, quit their work prematurely.

    1. A clear plan: if you just write without a plan, you are doomed to extinction. First, you need to create a basis, the foundation that will serve you throughout your writing journey, from writing your first page all the way to publishing and beyond
    2. Support: I’ve always believed in my power and my will. But…when I entered the online world back in 2014 I joined a private community of entrepreneurs and marketers. Needless to say, I was surprised by the tremem=ndous value and support I received. Without support, either online or offline, you can’t progress. Period.
    3. Income: how are you going to fund your writing career? Do you know what it takes to get published? or are you going to self-publish your books or novels? If you are not aware of how things work, you better seek professional help. Because every business needs funding. You can’t just offer only your time, is not enough. You will burn out in the end.
    4. Selective social media vision: the majority of beginners when they publish content online on social platforms, try to be everywhere and they soon feel overwhelmed. Social media is another example where a plan in place plays a significant role.

    Is There Anything Missing?

    Nothing is perfect, right?

With that said, I believe there’s something missing.

I did not find any training on how to actually write a book.

Anyone can write a book. But the thing is how many people are actually going to read that book.

Books need to be entertaining, fascinating, and keep the reader alert at all times.

Also, it’s very important to have a plan in place before you even start writing a story.

You need to connect with the reader on a deep emotional level, provide compelling conflicts, and promise something extraordinary.

The most successful books, stories, and movies, all follow storytelling frameworks.

Without such a framework, your book might not have the attention it deserves.

If you don’t use a storytelling structure in your book, you might end up disappointed.

This does not mean that your writing is awful.

    No.

It means that your book misses an ingredient, but a crucial one.

The storytelling frameworks are responsible for keeping readers engaged from page 1 up until the very end of the last page.

Don’t worry though. I have you covered.

We just released a brand new bonus exclusively for Hope Writers members (see below).

    Final Words

The hope writers team is a dedicated community that will hug you from the very first moment.

The co-founders do their best to keep you satisfied. Their video sessions prove their passion for writing and the Tuesday teaching will add extreme value to your membership.

The community will help you go from writing to book publishing, that’s for sure.

But hope writers’ content is almost exclusively created for authors that want to follow the traditional publishing route and that is getting published with an agency.

Nothing’s wrong with that but lately, there had been an increased number of authors that follow the self-publishing way

Both ways can bring you awesome results.

There are a few lessons on the self-publishing route but are not enough.

On the other hand, they provide more than enough lessons for the traditional book publishing route.

The hope writers team covers almost everything you would need in your writing journey.

There are training lessons on how to become a responsible author, someone that follows effective routines and techniques, someone who identifies his/her ideal readers and treats them well, a real entrepreneur and marketer, someone with a unique voice, someone that has a business running.

Also, there are lessons in marketing, contracts, publishing, social media, and so much more.

The Tuesdays teaching sessions are a goldmine of information and you will be delighted by the plethora of successful authors, editors, agents, and other experts that share their insights in the most powerful way.

As I mentioned earlier, I would expect more lessons about self-publishing and how to actually write a book.

The Facebook group and the independent circles created by other members will keep you on track and alert at all times.

Only a few FB groups are so engaging and active like hope writers.

The price tag is logical and the membership worth the investment.

The 60-days guarantee ensures you have all the time you need to evaluate their services before you commit to the community.

    Very generous.

All in all, it’s an exceptional opportunity you have to take very seriously.

    But…

There’s hard work associated if you want to actually turn your writing into a real business.

You have to make use of your membership and follow the training. Ask for help when needed and interact with other members often. You gotta do your homework and attend the video training sessions.

There’s a lot of information but have in mind, information without implementation is just…procrastination.

    • How to create products and services and launch them in a way that builds trust, anticipation, and buzz (so either you have products or services and we market them or we create new products)
    • How to perform thorough market and competition research
    • How to offer a unique selling proposition and create a brand’s manifesto
    • How to market and get traffic using content, emails, social media, copywriting, sales pages, sales funnels, quizzes, questionnaires, paid advertising, influencer marketing, outbound marketing, affiliate marketing
    • By applying these amazing marketing strategies, you gain a competitive advantage and you’ll be able to convert visitors into prospects, customers, and fans
    • How to become a really successful entrepreneur
    • How to use a strong language that not only sells your products but positions you as a leader in the industry
    • Plus and this is very important: my bonus #2 will help you use a storytelling framework that makes writing easier, engaging, and get your readers hooked from sentence one.
    • All the most successful stories that are being used in books, movies, films, theater plays, and even articles, emails, and advertisements, follow storytelling frameworks. This is what makes a story successful or a failure. Without a storytelling framework, your story might end up being boring and that’s not because your writing is boring. It’s because this framework creates anticipation, which is the most important ingredient of a story people want to hear about.
