Doing business in the eCommerce space is not easy. The competition is fierce, the needs of people change all the time, new brands and products are entering the market non-stop, new competitors, new suppliers, new contracts, new platforms, partnerships, and so much more.
We discussed the other day a unique eCommerce business model that stood the test of time and is responsible for amazing results among thousands of people but right now is underutilized.
And we had Dan Meadors and Dylan Frost, two very successful Amazon sellers, sharing a brand-new eBook called “Hush Money”.
In this book, they explained how they use an innovative model that they call reverse sourcing wholesale that gives them a competitive edge.
This is what we’re looking for always when doing business, competitive advantages.
And today, I want to discuss suppliers as they play a vital role in the success of your eCommerce business. Without strong relationships in this field, any eCommerce business is doomed to fail.
So, I want to share a quick video by Dan Meadors, one of the co-founders of the Wholesale Formula where he answers questions regarding relationships with eCommerce suppliers.
So, let’s watch what Dan has to say and I’ll add my notes!
Building Relationships With eCommerce Suppliers
Dan Meadors – The Wholesale Formula Q&A
My Addition
Lynn asked the burning question “how do I build strong relationships with suppliers? I’m not a salesperson.
Everyone is afraid of salespeople. Right?
Nope.
I’ve discussed this topic countless times.
I became a salesperson at the age of 17. I was forced to do it.
But now I feel blessed for this experience because it helped me realize that selling is actually serving.
I discovered it the hard way. Nobody told me anything about sales. My father just gave me a bunch of merchandise and asked me to get clients.
When I asked him how do I do this he said…you just talk to people.
Oh, thanks!
But let me underline the most important points in Dan’s video so I can add my notes.
- Most people don’t like sales
- Sales is a skill that can be taught
- The goal is not to be pushy
- Sales is an exchange of value for both sides
- The value you deliver will help you stand out
- Delivering value helps you beat the competition
- Build relationships around value
- This is especially true on Amazon
- Investing in their Amazon presence makes you more than a salesperson
- Follow up on what you do and make sure you deliver
- Quality beats quantity
I believe the book “Ogilvy on Advertising” by David Ogilvy, who is known as the “father” of advertising will help you change your mindset about sales.
I discuss a section of this book in the article “When people are rude to a salesperson”.
Also, in our video series “Quick marketing & business tips” I discuss sales and related topics.
In the 1st episode, I analyze why you should educate your customers about the unique advantages and benefits of your products and services.
Just like Dan said. Don’t just be another seller in the huge list of Amazon sellers that only ask to open an account.
Instead, be a better seller, one that cares about its partners and show how you can help them right away,
Describe why you’re different and how you work.
In another episode, I discuss one of the most basic principles in marketing and business and that is paying attention to your customers’ needs.
In another one, I discuss that everything starts with research.
Exactly as Dan said, learn more about your suppliers and discover what they need before you contact them.
In another episode, I recommend that you add value and do not give up too early.
Just like Dan said, follow up on your first point of contact.
In another episode, I share how to sell your ideas effectively by giving you an example.
In other episodes, I discuss nurturing customers and the importance of following up.
I recommend that you go through these short videos as well to level up your game as a salesperson in the eCommerce industry or any industry for that matter.
Final Words
We’ll get back to this incredible business model in the upcoming articles.
I recommend that you download the eBook “Hush Money” to get familiar with the reverse sourcing wholesale model.
That’s it, another article has finished, here on Web Market Support. I am waiting for your comments and thoughts. Till next time.
