I was reading the news and came across a statement by the famous French actor and filmmaker Alain Delon that was dated back in 2018.
And he said:
“I hate the times that we live in, it makes me vomit. There are people that I hate. Everything is false, and only money counts. I will leave this world without regret”.
Well, I can’t say I’m surprised by the statement but when a famous actor says something like that is a good sign.
It means that not everything is lost yet.
Yes, we’re standing at the crossroad and we have to choose, and we only have one chance to choose wisely.
A choice that will shape the rest of our lives.
Is Money All That It Counts?

Today’s World
Let’s review our world for a moment with our eyes closed.
Do we see happiness? No, and it’s not because of covid-19 and the restrictions that followed. Τhe pandemic simply worsened a pre-existing condition. How can we be happy if people around us suffer? If there are wars, bloodshed, violence, crime, terrorism, and suicides?
Do we see justice? Ha, this term belongs to the past where there were no social classes and categorization of people based on their income. How can we enjoy justice when everyone is treated differently and there are so many criteria and metrics?
Do we see freedom? On the surface. But underneath, there is chaos, confusion, and slavery.
What do we really see?
Poverty amidst this technological growth and explosion, hunger in an environment where tons of unused food is thrown away daily, pollution and disasters on a planet full of energy and life.
And we see corruption, greed, fraud, stress, envy, wrath, a world full of psychological traps, disorientated, fearful.
Disharmony, lack of cause, and no sight for the future.
And yes, hunting for money has become our one and only purpose. Because there is this misconception that money buys everything; authority, power, freedom, or even happiness. But this is what enslaves us above all.
Money is a mind trap instead of being a medium of exchange.
All In Good Measure
There are laws and limits for everything but there are no limits on how much money someone can make.
But if there was such a limit, it wouldn’t be fair, right?
Some people work harder and they deserve to get paid accordingly.
Some entrepreneurs and companies thrive while others simply fade away.
There are wealthy and developing nations and countries with no food, medical supplies, and equipment.
Well, here’s the thing:
Being wealthy, constantly developing, growing your company, and making more money is no evil at all.
How you use this money is what matters.
Take my family for example.
Both my parents were born in poverty, besides, it was the period that followed World War II.
But they worked hard and by the time I became 8 years old, everything was changed. We built a new house, we had a company that was thriving, we could buy things and enjoy trips.
The factory was doing great for over 20 years but my parents’ philosophy, habits, and how they see the world never changed.
We never bought a mansion, luxurious cars, and yachts, although we could.
We don’t buy overpriced clothes, watches, or jewelry just to improve our image or elevate our status, although we can.
We are humble.
We don’t translate money into power and we don’t use it to hurt others.
We live by this ancient Greek proverb by Kleovoulos…“Παν μέτρον άριστον”. In English, it looks like this…all in good measure.
It means we should always measure things and our actions, that we should not pass the limits, hurt people, not use our power and position to take advantage of others, dethrone, conquer, or enslave.
Life without limits becomes unbalanced.
You can’t run all day long without a pause, you can’t eat non-stop and expect not to get fat, you can’t drive your car to its speed limit every day and expect not to cause accidents.
Every action has consequences.
In the same fashion, using money to hurt or do evil has consequences.
How Do You Use Money?
The last 2,500 years is a period that humanity is not proud of. A time in history written with blood and RED capital letters.
Wars upon wars, genocides, empires, destructions, diseases, slavery, torturing.
The last 100-2000 years?
Well, we seem to be proud of our technological advancements, the growth of science, the quality of life but we forget to count all this BLOOD money. Drugs, weapons, human trafficking, animal abuse, influence over politicians, and other forms of evil where money is being used to hurt instead of help.
Is it any good if my chemical production company thrives but the environment suffers from pollution?
Is it any good if my company thrives and my staff is angry, miserable, or degraded?
Is it any good if my drug operations thrive when people die?
Is it any good if my entertainment company thrives when animals are being locked in zoos for the rest of their lives?
Is it any good if my company thrives and I use this money to control key politicians to position myself as an authority?
Is it any good if my multinational company thrives on the expense of every local store that is closing?
Is it any good if my food company thrives and people have medical issues?
Is it any good if my fishing company thrives but the ocean is dead and empty?
The Light In The Tunnel
How far are you willing to go in order to make money? Are you going to sacrifice everything and anything that gets in your way just to succeed?
Then, I can only tell you how much of an opportunity you miss.
The opportunity to do good and bring justice, to set free instead of torture, to bring harmony and balance.
Yes, you’re an ambitious entrepreneur and I’m too. Yes, you want to make more money and I want that too.
But how exactly are you going to make money? This is what matters!
Are you going to spill blood and bring suffering?
Or are you going to make an impact on people’s lives and be remembered for someone that made a difference?
Are you the owner of a company that is willing to destroy anything for the sake of money and please its shareholders’ greed, or are you the owner of a company that is sacrificing a percentage of its profits just to make people happy?
What does it matter most to you?
Is it quantity over quality?
Is it happy customers and happy staff or a happy wallet and a satisfied egoism?
And please note, that there is karma for everyone. All you do in life gets back to you. The universe has its own way and you can’t buy off the universe no matter how much money you have.
The times we live in are critical. It’s time for decisions and deep philosophical reflection.
What we do now affects the future and our children. It’s our legacy, our memory.
Be the entrepreneur that cares and you’ll soon discover the beauty of reward. A moral and spiritual reward, far superior to anything else.
Epilogue
I believe in you. Listen to your heart and your soul and be remembered for someone your children are proud of and someone that people want to model.
Be innovative, constantly improve, capitalize on opportunities, be a leader, make more money, become a billionaire, but do it in a way that brings harmony and helps the society.
Don’t let greed steal your mind.
I know I can count on you!
